Black Man or Human ?
I’m black
But then again I’m not
For I refuse to let my
Skin tone rot
My goals
For I control my destiny
And this mission
And let my gifts do the speaking
For any man
Whose not viewed as a weakling
Will always be respected
Is like a US mint
A role as a president
Or a prominent leader
From all people
Who refuse to advance as equals
And steer clear of the barrier
Is not the essence of my blessing
So please stop addressing
My being under such a class

Requires the best of me
So this stereotype
Is only hype
And I truly sympathize
With all men whose sight
Is viewed from a tunnel.
So I choose not to be disgruntled
By his figure of speech
That greets me
“What’s up nigger”
because I can relate
although this isn’t my race
nor will I succumb
to such a degrading state
for I now reside
inside of MLK’s dream
and “One Humanity”
is my slogan and theme
which dismisses the fable
that I’m incapable
of success,
so I will never be inferior
to the nest
of racial minds
that find it worthy to design
a class
in which a man shall be defined
as subhuman.
when my history reflects
that my culture
has given birth to the best
array of people
who are equal in ability
for the mind of man
is his artillery
to overcome a trial
and a pile of tribulations
that have derived
from the sins of evil nations
now should I just mope
and give hope to their logic?
Or do I let the fruits of my actions
Stop this
Despicable myth
Because injected into his veins
Is a strength
That no skin tone can contain
For my  unshackled brain
And I can envision
Because I‘m freed of categories
That will not let me appreciate
The true glory
Of our Lord’s agenda
And the window of opportunity
That can only be entered
Through unity
So racial immunity
Is my stance
Which shall hinder progression
For my skin
Because negative traits
I’ve now surpassed
And at last
All my theories stand proven
That beneath all skin
Lies a human.
It was an understanding of this concept that propelled me to become the man I am today.
